Lead, SD. Homestake Mansion near Sinking Gardens. T.J. Grier, the gereral manager of the Homestake Mining Co. built this French styled mansion on top of the gold mine in 1884, and no expense was spared in furnishing it. Unfortunately in 1933 the mansion, along with most of that part of town, had to be razed due to underground shifting of the earth. Photo courtesy of the Homestake Mining Co. Neg on file.
