All residents of the State are invited to become members. Fee for membership, Two Dollars the first year, and One Dollar annually thereafter. Life membership, Ten Dollars, with no annual fee. Applications for membership may be made to the Secretary or Treasurer, and funds sent to either of them. No salaries are paid to officers.
The present special objects are the collection and preservation of materials for the History of South Dakota and its people. The success of the Society must depend on the co-operation of all citizens who are willing to promote these objects by their contributions.
Donations Especially Desired: All materials that throw light on the civil and physical geography, natural resources, aboriginal condition, settlement and history of the State, with the history of its counties, towns, cities and institutions; such as,
1. Publications by the United States Government.
2. Publications relating to the exploration, surveys, and history of the Northwest.
3. Copies of the earlier laws, journals and reports of our Territorial and State Legislatures; Governors’ messages, reports of departments, and court reports.
4. Documents relative to the organization of counties, cities, towns, corporations, societies, and political parties; city ordinances, directories, maps and plats.
5. Reports of societies, associations, alliances, and companies; and of moral, political and ecclesiastical conventions.
6. Publications by educational institutions and associations.
7. Books, pamphlets, addresses, biographies, journals, letters, autographs, portraits; files of newspapers, sketches of travel and adventure, experiences of pioneers.
8. Antiquities and curiosities of all kinds; Indian and war relics; geological specimens; minerals.
Articles that now seem to be of transient worth may prove to be of real value in future time.
Contributions sent to the Secretary will be duly credited to the donor, and preserved in a room secured for that purpose.
