Dear Aunt Adele:
I received your letter about a week ago and should have answered it before but kept putting it off. We were unable to go to St. Louis because of the rush of work at home to get things in shape for winter; that is Papa was, and I would not care to go on much of a trip alone. Besides, the rules at the S. F. [Sioux Falls] High School are very strict in regard to absence. All work that is missed must be written out and handed in or else recited to the teacher direct and it takes me a week or more to get a single day’s absence “made up”.
Of Course, I would have been more than glad to have gone, but for the circumstances would have done so. It’s horrid to be a creature of circumstances.
I hope you may visit us next summer. I do not believe you would
