About the SD Digital Archives Collection

While the site contains documents from government and manuscript collections, the largest collection consists of photographs, which are made available through the “Preserving South Dakota in Photos” initiative. The initiative makes the photographic collections more accessible via the web, decreases handling of the original photographs, and improves the catalog records for each of the photos. The initiative is funded by donations and grants.

Funding for the Black Hills collection was provided by:
Deadwood Historic Preservation Commission
Black Hills Corporation
Stan Adelstein

Funding for the Historic Structures collection was provided by:
Preserve America grant from the National Park Service
Deadwood Historic Preservation Commission
Smart Software Solutions
Leo Flynn
Cindy Lillibridge

Those seeking to donate photographs to the archives or to sponsor a collection can contact the state archives at (605) 773-3804.
